Jury Code #3: Technique in the Service of Music

The qualification round once again showed how different technical backgrounds and musical approaches can be. With our series “Jury Code: Our Guidelines for Listening,” we share what matters most to us at ZYC: how our jury listens, assesses, and accompanies – openly, respectfully, and with an eye toward development.

Today's focus: Jury Code #3 – Technique in the Service of Music. At ZYC, technique is not an end in itself. What matters is not how much technical skill you show, but what you use it for. Technique should help you make musical expression, tension, and meaning audible – and carry your interpretation.

What matters most is what becomes musically tangible: sound, expression, and personality.
This creates space for music that is more than a technical demonstration.

With the Jury Code, we make visible what ZYC stands for: open, development-oriented listening and space for your own artistic path.
