SchweizerMusikzeitungonZYC

No competitive mindset, no ranking logic – and yet performances of the highest caliber. The Schweizer Musikzeitung was there for the first Zurich Youth Classical and describes what sets this format apart from everything else.

What does it really mean to support young musicians – beyond rankings and performance comparisons? At the first ZYC, artistic personality and individual expressiveness took center stage, and the audience and jury alike were equally impressed. The Schweizer Musikzeitung attended the qualification round and the final, spoke with those involved, and asked whether this unusual concept actually works. Their conclusion: it does – and perhaps ZYC shows what contemporary talent development in classical music can look like.
